Your flooring is easily the most used area of your home. Most types of flooring are extremely durable, but eventually it will become time to replace your flooring. Here are a few of the signs that it is time to replace your flooring.
Carpet
The life span of carpet can vary widely based on the quality of the carpet and the level of care provided to the carpeting. In general, carpeting can last for anywhere from 5 to 15 years. Stains that won’t go away may indicate that the stain has penetrated the carpet’s padding. After this has occurred, the carpeting will need to be replaced. This also applies to odors that won’t go away after cleaning. Additionally, if the carpet rips easily, it may be time to replace it.
Hardwood
Hardwood is exceptionally sturdy and long-lasting. It provides homeowners with the opportunity to refinish, sand, or recoat the flooring rather than completely replace it. However, there will come a time when the hardwood needs to be replaced. If the hardwood has sustained water damage or been oversanded, the wood will need to be replaced. Additionally, if there is extreme movement or softness of the floorboards, the wood is likely beginning to decay. At this point, the hardwood floor will require replacement.
Laminate/Vinyl
Laminate and vinyl tiling will show you when it needs to be replaced with very visible signs. Whenever the laminate or vinyl needs to be replaced, it will begin to show signs of peeling.
